How to Make SEO-Friendly Blog Posts

Starting a fashion blog about the latest trends? Trying to become insta famous? Check out these tips for how to make sure your blog is decked out with only the best SEO. Google and your readers will thank you.

1. Know Your Target Keywords

What are your readers searching for? How will people be searching for a specific term?
Once you have identified the keywords that you’d like to show up for, be sure to
incorporate these keywords into your blogs.

2. Don’t Keyword Stuff

A blog crammed with keywords is not fun to read, and can also get you in trouble with Google. Delicately weave your keywords through your content in a natural and logical manner, and your readers as well as Google will applaud your efforts.

3. Blog Frequently & Create High Quality, Original Posts

Recently, Google has made improvements to their Panda update, which can affect your
website’s quality score. Blogging often will keep your content fresh, which will keep your
audience and Google interested. It’s definitely best not to steal blogs from other sites or to buy blogs, or your rankings may suffer.

4. Make Sure Posts are an Appropriate Length

Posts that are short and chopping may not rank well after the recent quality updates to Google’s algorithm. However, posts that are too long may lose your reader’s attention. Find a happy medium, making sure to have enough content for Google to peruse but to still be brief enough to not scare away readers.

5. Make Sure URLs are SEO Friendly

Let’s say you’ve recently created a makeup blog, sparklediva.com. You create your first
blog post, and the URL comes out looking like this:
https://www.sparklediva.com/blog/9DP8708AF4/default.asp?/makeup+how-to/654FG08
Unfortunately, that’s not a pretty site for your readers or Google to look at. Clean up your
URLs and structure them in a logical order, like this:
https://www.sparklediva.com/blog/makeup/how-to-contour-like-a-kardashian/
A search engine optimized URL will be easier for your readers and Google to
understand.

6. Create Meta Titles and Descriptions for Each Blog Post

Meta is valuable for conversion, and should contain your target keywords. Make sure to
create a meta title and description for each blog post (no duplicates).

7. Remember to “No Follow” Any Duplicate Content

If you do choose to share content from another website to reference a certain topic, be
sure to include a canonical tag so that Google will not index that page of your site. This
lets Google know to ignore that page of your website so that you can still include the
relevant information without being penalized for duplicate content.

8. Search Engine Optimize Your Alt Tags

If you’re an avid video gamer, you may have an ongoing gaming blog about your favorite
games and recent experiences. If you’re including images like in-game screenshots,
video game concept art, and other promotional images, make sure to optimize the titles
of all images. This can help your website get found more easily! As always in the realm
of SEO, remember to avoid duplicate titles.

9. Use Topic Tags Sparingly

At most, use one or two key topic tags per blog if it applies, not twenty. For example, let’s say you are writing a blog about a new cookie recipe you recently attempted from the Martha Stewart website. You may want to tag “snickerdoodles” as your main topic tag for this blog.

10. Utilize Internal Links

Linking internally throughout your site helps to show that your content is valid and
relevant. It can also help readers to navigate to other pages of your site and learn more
information.

11. Vary Your Content

Don’t blog about the same thing each time! Make sure to think of unique, creative topics for each post to keep your readers intrigued. Changing up your posts will keep readers coming back for more, eager for a new learning experience with each article.

12. Create Relevant, Keyword Rich Headings for an SEO Boost

This is good for your SEO results and can also help to make blogs skimmable. By breaking up a blog with headings, your readers can easily skim through your blogs, and Google can quickly grasp which information you are highlighting as the most important.

13. Link to Other Bloggers

This shows you are knowledgeable in your industry and recognize quality content and talent amongst other bloggers. It may also gain you a link back from the other blogger, which could increase domain authority on your own site.

14. Share on Social Media

This will help you to drive traffic, engage with readers, and utilize your keyword strategy.
Don’t be shy about your blogs; share them with the world!

15. Create a Quality User Experience

What do your readers want? Keep your readers in mind when creating new posts! What are your readers searching for? What is sparking their interest? Make sure that your blogs are geared towards creating a seamless experience for your users, with SEO and with your content marketing strategy.

Check All Blogs for SEO Perfection

After completing each blog, give it a scan to make sure it is SEO friendly and ready to impress your readers (and Google)! The key components of a blog that your audience loves will also go hand in hand with what Google rewards. With one swoop, you can make your readers and search engines happy.
